Meet the Cuzzins behind The BLACK Spot Co.

Our Story

It started at the hammocks in Xel-Ha, Mexico — February 2021. Two Black girls from Philly, both celebrating their birthdays, both Aquarians, spotting each other in a sea of tourists. We exchanged info, went home, had tacos, and started dreaming out loud about global Black unity and collaboration.

Within six months, we were co-founders. By the following February, we were on a solar return trip to Senegal, West Africa — where the Black people we met insisted on welcoming us home in Wolof, not English or French. They were intentional about it. We felt it. That was the sign.

Brittany

A woman with long braided hair poses confidently in front of sheer white fabric, wearing a white outfit and bold red lipstick.

Brittany is the creator and co-founder of The BLACK Spot Co. She is an educator, writer, and coach originally from Philly (Philadelphia, PA USA), with roots in North Carolina, and currently resides in Rwanda. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies and Psychology, and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Brittany began her contribution work as the oldest daughter, but began to hone her practice of contribution teaching middle and high school English Language Arts.

After several years of serving her “lil cuzzins” in the schoolhouse, she discovered that her impact stretched far beyond the exhaustion and burnout of a classroom. She is a risk-taking leader and rigor-driven educator answering the call of her ancestral assignment as the first in her bloodline to return to Africa! Brittany is purposeful and methodical in closing culture gaps between Black people living in Africa and those living across its Diaspora.

As a returned descendant reversing generational curses, she empowers all of her cuzzins to master their own ancestral assignments by supporting them in the creation of their most joyful, connected, and loving experiences of this lifetime! Her work serves to rebrand and recirculate Africa’s cultural wealth, to ultimately establish a global Black economic powerhouse — The BLACK Spot.

Nyamah

A woman with a colorful headwrap smiles while leaning against a white pillar, wearing an orange dress and showcasing intricate henna designs on her hands, with a lush green background.

Nyamah is the co-founder of The BLACK Spot, creative DIY artist, and the ultimate BIG Cuzzin! She is a first-generation American, born from Liberia West Africa, and raised in Philadelphia, PA USA. She is an integral link in the bridge building between Africans and African-Americans. The traditions and culture of her Liberian household, right in the heart of West Philly, have informed her world view and conditioned her to artfully navigate the cultural immersion integral to the unification of Africa and its Diaspora.

She holds a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology and an M.B.A. with concentrated expertise in Human Resource Management. She aims to enlighten the global Black community by sharing her own experiences of cultural exposure, growing up African in America. Nyamah’s core values include the power of intention and the influence of conscientious consumption in all aspects of life, as a transference of positive energy.

Mental health counseling, conflict resolution, and youth programming are pillars of her contribution to the world. Her intention is to make The BLACK Spot a direct source for the undoing of destructive socializations (negative programming) plaguing the Black community. She strives to live a life of carefree happiness and abundance.
